Two operators can both advertise "35x wagering" on a similar bonus, and one can genuinely require twice as much real money wagered as the other. The difference comes down to a single line of terms most players never read: what base the multiplier is applied to.

The two bases, defined

• Bonus-only: the wagering multiple applies only to the bonus amount you received.
• Deposit + bonus: the wagering multiple applies to your deposit and the bonus added together.

A side-by-side example

Say you deposit $100 and get a 100% match bonus, so you now have $100 (deposit) + $100 (bonus) = $200 in your account. Both offers advertise "20x wagering":

• Bonus-only base: 20x × $100 (bonus) = $2,000 you must wager.
• Deposit+bonus base: 20x × $200 (deposit+bonus) = $4,000 you must wager — double, for the exact same "20x" headline.

This is exactly why comparing bonuses by their multiplier alone is misleading — a smaller multiplier on deposit+bonus can require more real wagering than a larger multiplier on bonus-only.

Promotional banners almost never state the base — they just say "20x wagering applies." The actual base is buried in the full terms and conditions, usually in a clause that simply says the requirement applies to "bonus funds" (bonus-only) or to "deposit and bonus funds" (deposit+bonus). It's one sentence that changes the real cost of clearing the offer.

How to spot it before you claim a bonus

1. Open the full terms (not the promo page) and search for "wagering" or "playthrough."
2. Look for the specific wording: does it say the requirement applies to "bonus" alone, or to "deposit and bonus," "deposit plus bonus," or "qualifying deposit"?
3. If it's not stated clearly, assume the worse case (deposit+bonus) until you can confirm otherwise with support.
